By utilising a used shipping container, the project provides a practical, durable and affordable arts and crafts workspace for service users, while supporting their sustainability initiative through reuse.

PossAbilities is a UK-based charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs. Their work focuses on creating opportunities for individuals to develop skills, build confidence, and live more independently through tailored programmes and community-based support.

Used Shipping Container Conversion

Cleveland Containers supplied a converted 20ft used shipping container to provide PossAbilities with a practical and flexible container workspace solution.

Used (wind and watertight) shipping containers are typically over 10 years old and may show cosmetic wear from previous international shipping use. Despite this, they remain fully structurally sound, wind and watertight, and suitable for container conversions across a wide range of applications including container storage and workspace solutions.

Container Conversion Features

To make the container suitable for everyday use, several modifications were carried out using options from our Cleveland XTRAS range.

A personnel door and window with shutters were installed to one side of the unit, improving accessibility, security, and natural light inside the space.

Due to the visible wear and tear typical of a used container, the unit was also given a full respray in blue, significantly improving its appearance and giving it a clean, refreshed finish - almost like new.

The 20ft used container was purchased for our project in Springfield, it has been perfect for arts and crafts classes.

We have also used Cleveland Containers previosuly for a 20ft rental at our head office to store food for the Christmas hampers we provide to support the homeless - the service and delivery were excellent.

We’ve now placed another order with Cleveland Containers due to our positive experience.
