Operating more than 30 training centres worldwide - including UK facilities in Aberdeen and Teesside - the organisation delivers safety and technical skills training to over 250,000 delegates annually across oil and gas, maritime, renewables and other high-risk sectors.

To enhance its confined space and working at height training capabilities, Cleveland Containers was commissioned to supply a bespoke Confined Space Training Unit for installation at Haverton Hill Industrial Estate in Teesside.

The Requirement

RelyOn Nutec required a robust, purpose-built confined space training environment capable of supporting multiple safety programmes. The unit needed to:

• Replicate real-world confined space scenarios
• Support working at height training
• Allow vertical access and rescue simulations
• Integrate seamlessly with existing site training infrastructure
• Reflect corporate branding and professional standards

The Solution

We transformed and supplied a 40ft New (One Trip) Standard Shipping Container into a fully customised confined space training unit.
The container was installed approximately four metres above ground level, creating a realistic elevated training structure to simulate vertical entry, rescue and access procedures.

• Full external respray in RAL 9005 (jet black)
• Branded ‘RelyOn Nutec’ vinyl decals
• Sliding access door
• Galvanised Kennedy grating decking floor, secured with twistlocks
• Three-flight staircase with three landings (middle landing aligned with sliding door)
• Full handrail system
• Elevated installation several metres above ground level

Access & Vertical Training Features

• Ladder system running from the external decking, through the container roof and into the unit
• Multiple clear opening hatches:
• Roof hatch aligned with corresponding floor hatch
• Larger evacuation hatch positioned behind the cargo doors
• Checker plate hinged lids
• Spring bolt mechanisms to secure hatch lids in the open position

This configuration enables realistic vertical entry and rescue simulations, allowing delegates to practise safe access, extraction and coordination procedures.

• Partitioned training sections
• Bespoke fabricated steel barn door with integrated fire escape at floor level
• Designated partitioned area for further specialist contractor fit-out
• Timber training boxes
• LED lighting throughout

The completed training unit provides RelyOn Nutec with a high-specification, branded confined space and working at height training structure that enhances course delivery at its Teesside facility.

The bespoke design ensures the structure supports long-term operational use while aligning with RelyOn Nutec’s global training standards.
