Durham Sixth Form Centre
The Centre’s new addition is a timber-cladded shipping container that we transformed into a café and seating area.
The outdoor café at Durham Sixth Form Centre was brought in to relieve pressure on the two other serving areas in the college and has become a popular spot for students and staff.
For this endeavour, the modifications team separated a 20ft One Trip High Cube Container into two equal sections by installing a partition wall with a sliding window.
One half was melamine lined to become a kitchen space with a servery hatch at the front and personnel door on the side.
We ply lined the other half and added a 400mm wide counter and two roller shutter doors so that it could be used as an easily accessible seating area.
The entire unit features multiple electrical points so that appliances such as fridges and tills could be installed by the on-site team, and for students to charge their devices.
The exterior of the container was timber cladded, making the final product look extremely impressive and modern.
We try, where possible, to source as much as we can from local suppliers and were delighted that the team at Cleveland Containers were able to design and build our converted container. Eddie Rees (Conversions Manager) has been excellent to deal with and a credit to the company. The bespoke café looks fantastic, and everyone is delighted with it.
Iain Beveridge, Buildings Project Manager at Durham Sixth Form Centre
The café serves a variety of hot and cold food, and there are exciting plans to serve ice cream from it in the summer months.
We’ve been informed that the students love the quirky addition to the Centre’s grounds, and it’s become a point of interest for potential students when they are touring the site.
Here at Cleveland Containers, we can modify containers to create bespoke units for a variety of businesses depending on their requirements. If you like the sound of this container conversion and think your business could benefit from something similar, please enquire below.
