SuperNode Technology
For their superconducting cable milestone, SuperNode worked with Cleveland Containers on a custom container solution.

SuperNode, a technology company based in Dublin, is leading the way in new cable systems for carrying electricity. At their site in Blyth, UK, they recently hit a big milestone by successfully testing a 30-metre cable carrying a very high current, (5 kiloampere (kA). For comparison, the charging range of electric vehicle chargers are typically from 16 to 80 amps. Lightning strikes deliver about 30 kA.

To support this achievement, they needed a secure, weatherproof space to house specialist electrical test equipment, so they approached our expert conversions team.
We supplied a bespoke 10ft container conversion that protects sensitive equipment from the elements while providing a safe, functional environment for testing. In addition, we supported the project with the hire of extra containers, giving SuperNode the additional space they needed to carry out their work effectively.

The interior of the container was ply-lined and insulated to create a clean, practical workspace and to further prevent damage or condensation.
The unit also features two removable side plates for easy cable access, along with lashing rings installed around the perimeter of the floor. These provide secure attachment points for equipment or cargo, ensuring items remain safely restrained during transport or while the container is in use. This not only protects sensitive electrical test equipment but also helps keep the workspace organised and safe.

Cleveland Containers supplied Supernode with both hire containers and custom fabricated solutions for housing of our test equipment. Our functional requirements fell outside those of standard shipping containers, yet staff at Cleveland were open to discussing our needs and finding workable solutions. We were kept informed of progress throughout the lifecycle of our orders and the containers arrived on site either on-time or ahead of schedule.

The completed container now provides Supernode with a secure, weatherproof base for their electrical test equipment. By combining durability with essential safety features, the unit supports their groundbreaking superconducting cable project and helps drive forward innovation in electricity transmission.
This project highlights how bespoke container conversions can support advanced technology companies by providing practical, tailored solutions for specialist equipment.
